We have unique and unparalleled experience in measuring levels of cytokines either by activity bioassay or mass ELISA in a variety of matrices. If one of our currently available assays does not meet your needs we can efficiently set up assays to meet your specifications.

Antiviral Cytopathic Effect Inhibition Assay Services
The standard assay to quantify the biological activity of interferon is to determine the protection of cells from the cytopathic effect (CPE) of certain viruses. These assays can be used to measure IFN-Alpha, Beta, Omega and Gamma in a variety of matrices such as buffer, media and sera. Currently these assays are available for Human, Primate, Mouse, Rat, Porcine, Bovine IFNs. All results are calibrated to either WHO or NIH reference standards where they are available. When no specific reference standard is available they are calibrated to the standard most similar to the test sample.

Data can be presented in two formats. A visual read is derived from microscopically examining the CPE and determining the dilution of test sample which protects 50% of the cells. Additionally, a graphical data presentation can allow slope and parallel line analysis.

Neutralization Assay Services
If you are interested in measuring the ability of your sample to inhibit IFN activity the assay, the standard assay is neutralization of CPE. IFN is placed on cells at a defined concentration which protects 100% of the cells and the ability of your sample to block this activity is determined.

These results can also be provided in the visual read and graphical formats.

ELISA Assay Services
We also routinely run ELISA studies for our clients. Most frequently these are for the detection of IFN in samples as a confirmation of anti-viral activity results. As the worlds largest manufacturer of interferons and interferon ELISAs we have years of experience with obtaining high quality results using these tools. We offer ELISA services for the detection of human IFN Alpha, Beta, Omega and Gamma and mouse IFN Alpha, Beta and Gamma. We also are happy to perform ELISAs for other analytes and can custom develop assays to suit your needs.
